retrieve music from CDs burned to iTunes on iPhone 4

I have an iPhone 4 that I use now only as an iPod music player in my older car. I have many CDs burned years ago to iTunes and then synced to that device. How do I get the music from thee -- which is my own music -- on to my current Windows 10 computer and current Apple devices (iPhone X, iPad)

Windows, Windows 10

G'day LacherLawNY,

Thank you for using the Apple Support Communities! Being able to manage your music content is always great, and I'm happy to help. I see you want to know if you can extract content from an older device in order to sync it to other devices

Since this content was imported from CD, there's not a way to extract it from an iOS device. In order to play that content on your PC and other devices, you would need to be able to access the files from the original computer or an external hard drive, if you stored the files there. If you can do that, follow the steps below:

Back up and restore your iTunes library on your PC

Move your iTunes library to another computer

I hope that's helpful!

Take care.

It's not a matter of Apple or iTunes being around forever. It's simply a copyright issue. To be able to do what you want, anyone could simply copy the music from anybody's iPhone, and get a free collection of songs avoiding the strict copyright laws protecting the song writers and musicians. So if you didn't keep a backup of your ripped CDs on a hard drive, it looks like you'll be ripping them again.

Thanks for the reply. I thought I might be able to extract the music fro a previous hard drive on which I had backed up that iPhone 4 but so far I have not been able to do that. It would be a shame to have to rip my own CDs again just because I trusted Apple and iTunes to be around forever. I see that I can easily get my photos off this old iPhone. But the music doesn't even appear anywhere in a directory -- even blocked -- when I connect that phone to my current Windows 10 laptop. and yet it still plays the the first day.

When I search the topic, I see a lot of ads for third-party software that claims to be able to access and extract the music. I just know know that I trust any of it.

Thanks again for reaching out, even with a disappointing answer.

Thank you for this reply. I actually am a lawyer and I know a fair amount about intellectual property protection, though it is not my primary area of practice. I take your point about anyone copying the music from anybody's iPhone. And I won't continue the argument, which is not an argument at all. Just saying that I did rip those CDs that I own and that I paid for to the computer I was using at the time. I used iTunes for the front end as opposed to Windows Media Player or any other program. To my best recollection, iTunes did not make it easy to find the music files and to transfer them. My loss. I have three old Lenovo laptops lying around. Maybe one of them will turn out to be the actual computer on which the CDs were burned.

And if not, you are right. I will have to burn them all again and be more careful this time as to where I locate them. Had to buy a new external CD player for the purpose. Thanks again for your guidance.
