possible virus

Hi, I was on the web researching SSD when my iMac Pro screen suddenly turned bright lime green with the word "NO" in giant letters in the center. No desktop, nothing. Partially frozen. I was able to restart and desktop /icons finally reappeared. Everything seems OK now. Was this some type of malware/viral attack? I did perform the upgrade to Catalina version 15.4 earlier in that day. I do not have any antiviral software or much in the way of new "foreign" software. System is pretty "virginal". Just wondering if anyone else has ever seen this phenomenon. Thanks, Rich

That just sounds like the website you were on was compromised. If you visit that same website it will probably happen again. It's up to the website to fix it. No real action you can take.

If you're worried you can use the free Malwarebytes. It's about the most proven anti-malware software for Mac and the only one recommended by Apple Support.

Thank you-do you think the mischievous code cleared out with the reboot or is there a chance something is lurking in the bowels of the computer?

It not mischievous code, its a pop-up from an infected website. I don't think there's anything there at all but as I said to be sure you can run Malwarebytes.
