I want to know if there is a way to have the chimes/alarms sound on my iPhone even when it is connected to my apple watch. I have noticed my text message and reminder chimes are not audibly sounding from my phone, but I do get a chime on my watch. Ideally I want my phone to sound as well, as I miss these watch prompts often. Anyone know how to do this?

As you have discovered, the notifications with an Apple Watch connected, are either for one or the other but NOT both.
If there are critical notifications that you rather have ONLY on your iPhone and NOT on your Apple Watch then you can open the Watch app ➔ Notifications ➔[ App Name] ➔ Check on Custom ➔ Notifications OFF. This will send the notifications back to iPhone when it is connected to the Apple Watch even when it is locked.
