Migration Assistant Issue - Files Transferred, But I Can't Access Them

I used the migration assistant to move everything from an old Macbook Pro to my new Macbook Pro.

The problem is that a new user account wasn't created on the new machine. I finally found the files in Finder > Go > Computer > Macintosh HD > Users. But when I try to access an of the folders/files I get a pop up message "The folder can't be opened because you don't have permission to see its contents."

How do I actually get all of the applications, files, etc. moved onto my desktop where I can actually access/use them?
