Bluetooth headset distortion after notifications or 1 hour - Iphone 11 Pro

Hello. I've seen some threads similar but none exactly the same. Iphone 11 pro (latest IOS), when connected to any bluetooth headset (we've tried many), will become distorted, garbly and stuttery when in a call and a notification goes off, OR once on a call for an hour (without notifications). This happens on TWO iphones so it's not isolated to one device.

The ONLY WAY to make it stop is to disconnect the headset, turn off bluetooth, wait at least 5 minutes and then turn it back on. We are on calls all day and have had to stop using our bluetooth headsets - NOT ideal.

Does anyone know of a fix or workaround for this?

Someone in a different thread said turn off Hey Siri - but I'll be honest - I use that feature all day long so this is NOT an option for me.

Is there a way to get apple to pay attention to this? It's seems there are enough people having variations of the same problem it is worth looking into.

Thanks everyone! #StaySafeStayHealthyStayHome

This is not a bluetooth headset issue. It is an Apple issue. This happens on two different phones and we have tested several different brands of bluetooth headsets (10 total) in various locations and yes, it happens everywhere not just in our home. Also as I said in my April 25th comment - I am now noticing similar things happening on my macbook running mojave (latest) where a notification comes in and my mouse/typing and cursor are momentarily affected (typing slows, mouse gets erratic)

AND further, this last week testing on iphone 11 pro calls, we are realizing even when NOT on a bluetooth headset, when on speaker, as soon as a notification comes in the caller says we become stuttered, static-y and garbled.

This is definitely an Apple problem with notifications causing interruptions. I am convinced of it. I have also queried my friends with iphones and macs and they are having similar issues. If you are from Apple, please look into this. This is not the only thread discussing the issue.

BTW - Turning Siri off does not fix the problem.

Hello, CCAPPL.

Thanks for getting back to us here in Communities and providing the additional information. Have you tried using the devices in different locations? If so, and the issue still occurs, I'd suggest reaching out to the manufacturer of the headset. There may be software updates.

I would also contact Apple Support in the event there are no issues with the headsets.

Cheers!

Hello. Thank you. Yes. I've gone through this support article and eliminated any possible interference to the degree possible. I will add this is happening on both iphones and with a multitude of headsets. And we work from different spaces in the home. Based on everything I've read, this appears to be an iphone issue with no resolution.

So I've noticed something interesting to add to this - A similar thing is happening on my Macbook Pro running Mojave 10.14.6 - Whenever a notification comes into the notification center my mouse and/or typing goes spastic for a time. The only way to make it stop is to close out of whatever app I'm in and reopen. There has to be some connection here.

Hello, CCAPPL.

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

I understand you're having issues with the Bluetooth audio quality when using your iPhone. You've done some great steps towards this issue and I'd like to help. I would make sure that wireless interference isn't the cause. If possible, try seeing if the issue occurs in multiple locations: Resolve Wi-Fi and Bluetooth issues caused by wireless interference

"Symptoms of wireless interference

Any of these symptoms could be caused by interference affecting the Wi-Fi or Bluetooth signal:

  • Device doesn't connect or stay connected
  • Connection is slow and signal strength  is low
  • Bluetooth audio skips, stutters, cuts off, or has static or buzzing
  • Pointer movement is erratic or jumpy

Make sure the iPhone is up to date. The latest iOS version currently is 13.4.1: Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Same goes for the Bluetooth devices, check for any firmware updates.

Keep me updated.

Cheers!
