How to move your content to a new Mac
Just connect the two computers with the cable, then you have to put one of them in “target disk mode”. The section titled “Connect the computers to each other” has a link to another article explaining how to do that. Here I copied that link for you: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201462
Please, however, read the first linked article carefully. There are other, easier, ways of accomplishing the migration, such as over Wi-Fi, or from TimeMachine backup.
Ethernet is mentioned - but there is no description of how to connect or use it. I have an ethernet cable, and a port for it on both computers. Someone mentioned I needed a switch - but I don't know what it is or does - or if just connecting the 2 with the cable will work?
