Hi isaias197,

Numbers is based around tables, each with a purpose. In Numbers, we can lock a whole table, but we can not lock some cells within a table. Try this with an input table (not locked) and a locked Results table with formulas.

After you insert formulas in the Results table, Menu > Arrange > Lock.

That method is not infallible. Anyone who is savvy with Numbers can unlock the Results table. But it does work to avoid accidental edits.

Please call back with questions.

Ian.

Well, the word "Template" is a little confusing. For Numbers, a template is a special file that is available to open. Once the template is open it becomes a new, unsaved document, that can be edited.

When you send someone a file, you can design the file so there is a place to enter information, and other places where calculations occur. The "places" are tables. You do thing like:

  • lock tables
  • indicate by notes and other graphical object that a table is to be left alone.
  • Hide calculation tables under other items

You cannot, ultimately prevent a user from unlocking a table and having access to it.

you should study how Apple put together templates that come with Numbers to seem examples of how this is done

Hi isaias,

You can lock a calculations table and then insert a Shape (rectangle) with a Fill Colour (Color) that matches the colour of the canvas. Slide (drag) that rectangle over the calculations table and resize. Lock that Shape. The Shape and the Table will be invisible. However, anyone who is savvy with Numbers can unlock the Shape and the calculations table.

Ian.
