Anything like this ever happen to anyone? I initiated a repair order for my MBP a couple days ago, and when I received my shipping box this morning inside it were two large 12V 18Ah batteries at about ten lbs each.
The lady on customer support was perplexed to say the least. She initiated a new repair order and said she’d have to get back to me on what to do with the batteries. 🤣

Not sure why Apple would be sending these to anyone though.
I rather doubt Apple sent them. A more plausible explanation is that the shipping company (UPS? USPS?) mangled a couple of boxes and attempted to match their former contents to their intended recipients.
At least Apple won't have to pay a lot to send you another empty box. The battery supplier on the other hand...

Makes two of us. That has to be the most hilarious mix-up I've seen.
Those are good batteries, and shipping them back and forth isn't cheap. Hopefully they'll just let you keep them.
Meanwhile, someone somewhere with a couple worn out batteries just received an empty box with a prepaid shipping label. Problem solved!
I told her I would gladly hold onto them! I do a lot of DIY building projects around Mardi Gras time and could certainly find a use for them.

Those are lead acid so ground shipping is ok. There are restrictions on Li-ion but they're designed for air transport—cargo only for example. Can't fly a Tesla.
Those go for about $30 each 😳

Well your Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) should work great with those installed.
Alternatively, your motorcycle should start right up, first time every time.

Maybe. Box didn’t seem particularly beat up or tampered with. Still had the foam inserts and packing instructions and spare tape strips in it 🤷♂️
That box sounds more suitable for batteries than whatever they were in originally.
