How to avoid parsing when copy-pasting from Excel to Numbers?

I am trying to copy-paste a list of decimal numbers from Excel to Numbers. The comma is set as the decimal separator in both Numbers and Excel.

When I paste the list in Numbers the data is automatically parsed over two columns. It seems Numbers considers the comma as a data separator.

How do I avoid this parsing?

You can correct it by clicking on "Adjust Settings" in the "table was imported" dialog box that pops up after you paste. You can then deselect the comma as a separator. It appears Numbers sees the commas and assumes it is "comma separated values". I do not know how to prevent it from doing that.

Thanks anyway. At least I know now that I don't have too keep trying. I know that I will have to renew my hardware in a not so far future. The new versions of the OS won't run anymore in this older machine. Pity.,This machine served me well for almost ten years.

Still I found a way to avoid having to re-type: I open the Excel file in Numbers first and copy from the Numbers version. Then paste works without parsing. A bit cumbersome, but is works.

Greetings, whoisthisthen.

I see that you're having a problem when using a comma to separate decimals in Numbers on your Mac. When you paste the list into Numbers, it treats the comma as a data separator. I'd like you to contact Apple Support for this issue.

Apple - Support - Product Selection — After selecting this link, choose Music, Apps & Services > Mac apps > Numbers. Then select how you'd like to start the conversation.

Take care.
