No sound while monitoring garageband

I recently bought a Focusrite Scarlett Solo (Gen 3) to allow me to record guitar and vocals into garageband. I have the latest iPad Pro and the latest version of Garageband.

I'm able to record my guitar - that is, when I plug into the second input on the focusrite and set garageband to input 2, I can capture what I'm playing. I just can't hear it.

It must be a setting, but I can't find it. In fact, while I have the Focusrite plugged into the USB-C port, I can't hear any sound of any kind.

This isn't going to work if I can't hear what I'm recording. I have verified that I have monitoring turned on (multiple times).

Is there some other setting? If I connect my Bluetooth speaker I can monitor but the latency is so great it's not usable (no surprise with Bluetooth).

Well, I got it working through the headphones on the unit. I had contacted Focusrite and this is the device they recommended. I thought I could use the iPad speaker to monitor the sound. It doesn't seem to work if I do that.

James,

sorry to hear you still have trouble. I assume you use the Headphone plug on your interface unit?

And are you sure your device is compatible with iOS? I am asking because on their website, they offer special IOS compatible devices.

there is also a lot of tutorials around, for example YouTube GarageBandGuide, or
