are there plans to have it support Wi-Fi 6 soon if not?

No. It would require new hardware in order to support the next standard and no one on this user forum can speculate on future plans.

Do yourself a favor and get a Mesh Network if you are looking at upgrading your network.

Apple does not publish future plans so we have no idea about what they intend to release.
