Apple Watch receiving double notifications from Mail

I've just bought an Apple Watch Series 5 (running OS 6.2.1) and linked to my iPhone XR (13.4.1).

My work email is a Microsoft Exchange account, and works perfectly on my iPhone. However, on the Watch, I receive two notifications for each email. One of them is dated "now" and the other has a time stamp of the current time or one minute ago. This doesn't happen with every single email, but it happens with most of them. It's hard to work out why it happens to some and not others.

This is a problem which has been identified before, but I have tried all the fixes online, and nothing has worked.

Any ideas? Mail is the only app delivering double notifications. And to be clear: on my iPhone, I only receive one notification per email.

Hello mpowell89,

Thank you for reaching out in Apple Support Communities. I understand you're seeing duplicate notifications for each of your emails in the Mail app for Microsoft Exchange on your Apple Watch.

Managing emails on your Apple Watch is important to ensure you're updated accurately. I'll be happy to help.

I recommend to temporarily turn off the notifications for the Mail app in the Watch app of your iPhone. Then, restart both the Apple Watch and the iPhone. From there, see if you continue to experience duplicate notifications for your emails.

To perform this step, please go on your iPhone and open the Watch app > Notifications > Mail < Notifications Off. Then, turn the feature back on after powering off each device and turning it back on.

Please let me know if that helps.

Kind regards.
