How do I stop iPhone XR apps from opening on MacBook Pro?

All of a sudden, my MacBook Pro is opening apps when I open them on my iPhone XR. My iPhone is not plugged into my MBP. This is happening with Mail, Notes, and Messages. Is it a settings issue I can change? The apps close on MBP once I close them on iPhone. They're somehow working in sync with each other, and I don't want that to happen. I'm running Catalina 10.15.4 on MBP and iOS 13.4.1 on iPhone. Driving me nuts, so I appreciate help! Thanks :)

You should be able to turn it off from your iPhone in Settings > General > Handoff and on your Mac in System Preferences > General > "Allow Handoff between this Mac and your iCloud devices".
