Google Chrome opening on different desktops

I am a student and mainly use Google Chrome since most of my documents are Google Docs. I have different desktops set up for my various responsibilities and often have multiple tabs open in each desktop. However, when I drag a tab out of a group of tabs to create a window, the new window automatically switches to Desktop 1 (no matter which desktop I was working in). This just started, and I'm not sure how to get it to where I can create new windows in the same desktop without having to switch and switch back. Any help?
