How to define multi-room groups for Airplay 2?

We have Airplay 2-compatible amp/speaker systems in several rooms. I'd like to define groups so that we can stream to multiple rooms in sync at the same time from our iPhones, iPads and MacBooks.

I understand this is possible in Airplay 2, but don't know where to look to set up the multi-room groups, and a web search is only turning up older articles from before Airplay 2. Can anyone help?

Thanks for the link, that's very helpful.

Is it possible for a room, or accessory, to be in more than one zone?

For example, we have Airplay 2-compatible speakers in our living room, study, and kitchen. Sometimes we want to stream simultaneously to the study and kitchen, but not the living room. Sometimes to the study and living room, but not the kitchen.

In order to do this, it seems that we would have to define multiple zones for a single room or accessory to belong to. The way the Home app is set up, though, it only seems to allow me to assign a room to a single zone.

Is there any way around this? Or some other way to do what we're trying to do? It seems like it would be a feature that the great majority of users would strongly want.

Greetings FrankO23,

Thanks for visiting the Apple Support Communities! I understand you'd like to organize your AirPlay 2-compatible speakers by room.

The Home app will allow you to organize your AirPlay 2-compatible speakers by room. You can see that outlined in the following article: Add and manage TVs and speakers in the Home app - Apple Support

Cheers.
