How do I backup my I phone I have tried connecting it to my computer but it keeps saying its not backed up

With the phone connected to the computer, click on phone in Finder. You will then see a screen where you can select back-up location. Select either Back-up to iCloud or Back-up to this Computer. I always back up to both, takes a little extra time, but I am reasonably sure to have a usable back-up.
