imovie video exported -- flickering in some frame // How to solve it?

Dear all,

in iMovie after I've saved the video (file -> share -> file) in .mp4 format on the desktop and I open it some frames are broken / flickered (I don't know how to described them -- see pictures attached).

I've tried to save the video several time and every time the frames broken are different... I've tried to save changing the parameters, but I didn't solve the issue.

I have macOS High Sierra 10.13.6 and iMovie 10.1.12

Try lowering the resolution of the still. You can do that by opening it in the Preview app on your Mac and clicking on Tools/Adjust size. Lower the 4032 dimension to 2500. See if that helps.

If the photo is in HEIF format, export it out your your iPhone in a more compatible format.

Just open your video clip in Handbrake (File/Open Source) and then hit File/Start Encoding, and that should give you a video clip that will work in iMovie.

From the iPhone you can go to your Phone settings (Settings/Photos/Transfer to Mac or Pc) and click on "automatic" to export in the most compatible format. That might be enough to cure it.

Or, for both iPhone vids and Go Pro you can use the free download, Handbrake, to convert the videos from your desktop to H.264, Mp4/AAC, that you can then import into iMovie. You can get Handbrake here:

Hi Rich! Thanks for the advise.

I've checked and it seems that the flickered frame are only from video (and not pictures). I need to convert video from Iphone and GoPro from .mov to mp4.

Hi Rich,

unfortunately I had the issue also with a picture :(

any suggestion? The quality is good and it's only one time, for the others I don't have issues.
