iphone backup keeps increasing remaining minutes

I purchased the extra 50 GB of storage so that my iPhone backup had enough space to complete but the remaining minutes to complete the backup continues to grow.

That generally happens when the original backup time assessment changes due to longer than expected times caused by deteriorating WiFi connection and upload speed. If you have not backed up on iCloud for quite some time then this one will take a while. If you are in doubt that the backup has stopped and not progressing then stop and restart it if you can. Make sure that your connection with your WiFi Network is good and more importantly that you have good upload speed greater than 8mbps. (Upload speeds are different from download speeds and are generally significantly lower than download speeds).
