Wrist detection disables notifications

I was getting notifications (messages, alerts, etc.) on my Apple Watch series 5 until recently it stopped. I did some research and one site suggested turning off wrist detection and I started getting notifications again. I tried restarting both watch and iPhone, and checking all my notification setting, do not disturb, and other suggestions. Is my watch defective, or is it a software issue?

Thanks,

Steve

Wrist detection should be turned on, and then as long as your watch is being worn and unlocked, you will get notifications. If you take the Watch off, you will no longer get notifications on the Watch, you will get them on the iPhone. That is how they are supposed to work.
