Macbook with Logic Pro X help

Hi, I was wondering if someone could help. I’m looking to buy a MacBook Pro and I want to get it with Logic Pro X so I can use it to make music with my midi controller. This issue I am having is deciding on which MacBook would be best to buy and suitable for what I want to use it for. Can anyone help with suggestions or already have this set up to advise?

There is no single answer to this question and there is nothing such as "best" for everyone. It all depends on the intended use and the expectations. Some tracks of Audio recording with few effects or large MIDI projects with many software instruments?

Many use Logic on Macbook Pro with success. Recent MacBook Pro with a fast SSD and memory maxed out (16 GB or more) can meet the needs of most consumer and casual Pro users. I would say even more.

I know this is less practicable in these isolation times but there is nothing better than going to a local store (Apple Store or other) and try. Bring your MIDI controller and build few projects on site.

Give us more information about your intended use and we will provide some advices.

I have to look up the models with the specs you messaged. Maybe user Wilddrums know that wich would be better? I know one thing Only Logic Pro X sound library will take up approx 70 Gb. So that will reduce the storage function drasticly with 256 Gb Harddisk. So I know that you have to keep in mind that productions or projects can take a lot of space. So 70 Gb Apple library sound/loops then you want to record your own sound. That uses a lot of space and a extern HDD/SSD is recomended for that.

If I have the time I will look up your specs.

Hi there. I have an MacBook Pro Mid 2012. I bought it because it was the last macbook pro that could be upgraded with more ram ( Apple says max 8Gb but max is 16 Gb ) And what Wilddrums said Is absolute the best. I have also SSD disk (2disk's in fusion) and maxed out ram. a Friend of me have the newest Apple MacBook Pro 16 inch (2,6GHz 6-core i7)

and paid € 2699,- euro that's +/- $2909,- US-dollars and my laptop is in some cases even faster then his new one (It is a beautiful machine) I Think a pc with less capability is for starter ojk. But I give you my word for it that if you stay making music even for one day in the week. That if your into it and make songs from start to end. The time, you want or have to upgrade, is faster yhen you think. I bought the 4 Gb ram version. After one year I upgraded it to 8 Gb. And half a year after upgrade I regretted I didn't bought 2x 8Gb ram for it. But at that time I had less money. But just keep saving is what I had should done. Also the SSD disk.I think you cannot compare the working speed of you machine with normal spinning diskdrive in it. World of change for me there. Fusion drive is another story there ;) but moneywize I', still on the MacBook Pro mid 2012 and bought a second one from Marketplace really cheep stil a working one thou. And bought SSD for it an maxed out the RAM. If there is something damaged I just change it. Well not myself, I let it change by a tech guy who ask for a disk change on my macbook pro 2012 20,- bucks. I tried it but had to ask my girlfriend to put the screws back. To figure out a day later the screw are not all positioned the same.

But really I'm on mac only for the music. The first time I heared the Garageband sounds an I played an software instrument. I was hooked.

If you buy a mac pro you can easily change disks RAM and other things yourself (If you'r handy with electronics and pc's). Down side is if you want to DJ you still need )If u wan't to use Traktor Pro for instance. You need a laptop. With good RAM and reliable SSD.

Thanks for your reply, really good points mentioned. Well I’m new to the whole making music scene and this would be more of a hobby. A lot of forums and blogs say to have a Mac, therefore I was wondering what would be the best set up for a beginner ie. absolute must haves for storage, speed, memory etc. I don’t want to purchase one I think would be ok then realise I should have gone for something more suitable etc. Look forward to hearing from people with advice. Many thanks

Thank you Matthijs. Great to read the post and thank you for taking the time to reply. The laptops I was looking to buy are,

Macbook Pro 13 inch, 2.4 GHz quad core 8th generation intel core i5 processor, turbo boost up to 4.1GHz, 16 gb memory, 256gb storage loaded with Logic Pro X.

OR

Macbook Pro 13 inch 2.8GHz quad core 8th generation intel core i7 processor, turbo boost up to 4.7GHz, 16gb memory, 512gb storage loaded with Logic Pro X. What would you say would be more suitable to my needs?
