Mute startup sound on macOS Mojave
Is it possibl to temporarily mute th startup sound on my new mac with macOS Mojave? Putting it to sleep is not an option as I need to shutdown overnight. The startup sound wakes everyone up!
Thanks!

You can reduce the amplitude of the startup sound using Sound preferences. You can also mute the sound using third-party utilities or a Terminal command: How to Disable the Boot Sound (or “Startup Chime”) on a Mac.
Thanks very much! Yes, when I unboxed the beast and started up, it was as quiet as a mouse! I was fearful as my (now dead) 2011 iMac would blast out a chime at every startup. Think I wasted your time as I should have waited to strt it up first ... sorry! But nice to know!

You're welcome.
FWIW, I believe Apple disabled the startup chime on new Macs in 2016. One thing that works on some Macs with a chime is to press the Mute key before shutting down.
Thanks! Apple kindly obliged by eliminating the sound.
