Camera isn't connected

Hi guys,

I bought a MacBook Air 11'', second hand, obs. It says the camera isn't connected.

I tried:

  • the terminal with:  sudo killall AppleCameraAssistant;sudo killall VDCAssistant and nothing happens and it says: No matching processes were found
  • tried to do the same with another admin user
  • tried to look for the VDC assistant in the monitor activity and couldn't find it
  • tried to restart/reboot

I am desperate...

Please help me!

Hi tifftouff,

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities! I see you're having an issue with a "Camera not connected" error message and I'd like to help.

Have you tried safe mode yet? If not, give it a try: How to use safe mode on your Mac

It may take longer to finish the start up, as safe mode does some system checks, and can sometimes resolve issues. You'll also see some differences in the display. This is expected with safe mode, and when you restart normally, they'll be gone.

Restart normally to see if the issue persists.

If so, then you can run Apple Diagnostics, or Apple Hardware test, depending on when your Mac was introduced.

If the camera is not found, then that indicates a hardware issue. You mentioned that your Mac is "obs". Did you mean obsolete? You can verify using this article: Vintage and obsolete products

Take care!
