Do all MacBook Pros (2017) suffer from 'FlexGate' issues?

Hi there,

I have just learned about the 'FlexGate' issue which affects 2016-2018 models of MacBook Pros. My friend has a 13" MacBook Pro 2017 (No Touchbar) and he's had to purchase a new computer because his broke thanks to the flexgate issue.

From what I understand - Apple is up to their usual hijinks and have recognised the problem as a design flaw, which affects models 2016 to 2018, however they're only providing a repair program for 2016 models?

So my question is - does my laptop have a pending death sentence... As I also have a 2017 13" No Touchbar MacBook Pro...

Apple says only a "very little percentage" of models suffer from the issue, but everywhere I look - people are reporting their own issues related to this design flaw. There are tens of thousands of people signing petitions demanding Apple makes an appropriate response to this failure, so it's obviously not that little.

I previously owned a MacBook Pro mid-2012, which also had a design flaw which I couldn't get repaired under warranty. If I am now to understand that this laptop has a similar flaw which conveniently exposes itself outside of warranty, then I'm frankly disgusted.

TL;DR: Does/Will my MacBook Pro 2017 (13-inch, 2017, Two Thunderbolt 3 ports, No-Touchbar, 128GB) suffer from the flexgate/stagelight issue that isn't covered by Apple's repair program? I've had it about a year, no issues so far - but my friend (as mentioned above) reported his failed 2 years into his ownership of it.

Thanks very much,

Stay safe.

At this time, there is no Service Program for this 15" issue of the projector cable, or the 2017 MBP.

Service Program—

Typically in the past if Apple does release a Service Program, they have offered a refund for out of pocket expense parts & labor for the exact issue covered.

Service Programs are triggered by the percentage of all MBP of this spec vs the number of failures documented.

We are not privy to this %, or have any more insight.

A repair ticket, your Apple Feedback—all are heading in the right direction to trigger this release.

Apple Feedback http://www.apple.com/feedback

A repair at your local AppleStore or AASP will generate a "service record" for the repair on your machine—and this is all you will need to qualify—if a Service Program is issued.

An alternative work-a-round for you is to connect to an external monitor.

Thanks for the reply,

I'm well aware there is no repair service available, or frankly any support at all.

It's good to know that Apple only triggers a service repair program if only some consumers suffer at the cost of Apple's mistakes...

Whilst that may be a work-a-round - it's not what any MacBook Pro 2016-2018 owner paid for...

As mentioned, this isn't my first time in the palm of Apple, my mid-2012 model died due to a design fault, and there was no refund made available despite the failed repairs.

This sort of behaviour from Apple, a company well established, is completely unacceptable.

Thanks for the information.
