I have backed up my photos library on my hard drive a few years ago, I want to reopen it and the only thing I can open it with is the Photos app, will it replace my library that I have now

No, when you use the option key to open a library, it does not change or touch any other libraries that you have.
No, when you use the option key to open a library, it does not change or touch any other libraries that you have.
Rename them as you would any file on your Mac.
With Photos closed to open any library just double click on it.
You may want to rename the backed up library to a different name from your current library, so you do not confuse the two libraries.
