Apple Watch Series 4 pausing constantly during outdoor run

My Apple Watch series is constantly pausing my workout when on an outdoor run. Tonight recorded only just over half of the run, I have to constantly keep unlocking it and resuming the workout which absolutely infuriating me! I’ve turned off the auto pause and also turned off the press crown to pause option... any other ideas? Even if I could stop it from locking itself every 5 seconds would help. Thanks.

The first (and simplest) thing to try if something isn’t working right is to restart your Apple Watch and its paired iPhone. If necessary (device not responding), try a forced restart. Both methods can be found here:

Restart your iPhone - Apple Support

The next steps would be to unpair and pair your watch again and restore from the backup:

Unpair and erase your Apple Watch - Apple Support

Set up your Apple Watch - Apple Support
