Congratulations on your new Magic Keyboard! I understand you're having trouble connecting the keyboard with your iPad and you've verified that the connectors are clean. I know how important it is to be able to use new accessories with your iPad; I'd like to help.
If you haven’t already, update your iPad to the most recent iOS version available (13.4.1 as of 4/24/2020) and then try to connect your Magic Keyboard again: Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

I figured out that the problem was that I did not have my iPad updated.
now it is working

Double check that the Smart Connector contacts are all clean on the Magic Keyboard and on the iPad.
I did check it, but it still does not connect.
