Dictionary.app crashes on Mac Catalina (ver. 10.15.4)

ki195, Hi, I had the same problem which I solved by deleting a .plist file related to the Dictionary.app. Most probably, after that all your dictionaries from the Library will be gone, but there is a solution to this problem as well https://discussions.apple.com/thread/251223780

Try rebooting holding down the shift key to go into safe mode.

Does it work now?

If so, does it still work if you reboot in normal (i.e. no shift key) mode.

I don't think it's a Dictionary bug because I can run it fine using the same operating system (10.15.4).

It might see a bit drastic, but you can reboot into Recovery mode (Command-R on start-up) and then reinstall macOS - it could take an hour or two. It overwrites the problematic system and replaces it with a nice new shiny one. It leaves your personal data alone.

I tried to remove all the files related to the dictionary.app and reboot the system. Then the dictionary app works! However, now there is only wikipedia available, and other dictionaries are gone...

Hmm. Now you'll probably find that a reinstall of macOS will bring Dictionary back again, with all its dictionaries.

Hi, I have the exact problem after updated my iMac (late-2015) to Catalina 10.15.4 recently.

Could you describe more specifically which files (or folders) related to the dictionary.app that you removed?

(I tried to remove the ones in ~/Library/Dictionaries but it seems not to work..)

artemiyk83, do you know which .plist file you deleted? At first glance, I see "Info.plist" and "version.plist". I'm looking in the "Contents" folder of /System/Applications/Dictionary.app

This is a file type I'm not familiar with, so I want to make sure I don't mess things up even more 😅

Sorry, I can't remember where it was stored, but certainly not in the Contents folder. And it was neither of those you mentioned, because it had lots of messy numbers in the title. I found it by just typing Dictionary.app in the Spotlight.
