The iWork '09 applications will run in El Capitan. These were available in a Trial version when introduced, but you should avoid that version as the servers that issued and processed the keys that unlocked the trial versions and converted them to the full version are no longer available.

The applications were also issued in a retail boxed DVD, which installs the three applications, and does not require a key to operate. This was initially labelled iWork '09, and later labelled iWork (without the '09).

This package is no longer available from Apple, but may still be found at Amazon or other resellers.

After installation, apply the iWork 9.3 update, available here: Apple - Support - Downloads

before launching any of the applications.

Pages, Numbers and Keynote underwent a full rewrite for the versions after '09. They were released through the app store as Numbers 3.x.x, Pages 5.x.x nd Keynote 6.x,x.

The last update of these was to version n.6.2, which is the most recent version compatible with El Capitan.

You may be eligible to get this version from the App store, but you'll not find it listed directly. I'm not familiar with the details of locating these apps under your circumstances, but will post a note to someone who is, asking him to read and respond to your post here.

Apple does not provide any user download site for past, full Pages, Numbers, or Keynote versions. You are advised to not obtain these from any download site, as there is no assurance they are safe.

If you launch the Mac App Store in OS X El Capitan (10.11.6), and press the option key while clicking on the Purchase tab, do you see any entry for Pages (yellow icon)? If not, there is no means to install any Pages application update. If there is a yellow Pages icon in the Purchased items, then you may see either an Install/Update button which could offer to provide you with Pages v5.6.2.
