Apple Watch not recording steps correctly

I’ve just been on the same walk with my husband yet my watch is saying I’ve done 3000 less steps then him how can I get this to work properly

Also I have real trouble closing apps I slide the screen to get the cross and it doesn’t slide or it slides but won’t allow me to click the cross

I’ve only had the watch a month but can’t take it to a store to be looked at
