I an sorry I didn't get that "We hope that you will not try to use the Time Capsule to store an "active" music or image library".

The Time Capsule will probably work OK if you want to store backups of your documents, photos, music, etc. But, you would not want to store your original documents or your main everyday media library on the Time Capsule.......since it was designed to store backups.

Because you will not be backing up everything on your Mac, you will have to manually back up the documents, photos, music etc to the Time Capsule.

At present I have no Ethernet connection near my computer, I have ordered a new WiFi booster and Ethernet extender, it will arrive next week?.

The Time Capsule must connect to your router using a permanent wired Ethernet cable connection. Then you can back up over the WiFi network or connect your Mac directly to the Time Capsule if you want to back up using a wired connection.

You will not be able to connect the Time Capsule directly to your Mac using an Ethernet cable....but not connect it to your router.....because the Time Capsule is a "network" drive that must connect to your router.

Things would be much simpler for you if you simply added a USB drive to your Mac and backed up to that device. That would be my strong recommendation.

We can tell you how to do this, but we'll need more information first, so that we will understand more about your network and how things might already be set up at the present time.

1) Is the Time Capsule now connected to your network?

2) Was the Time Capsule previously used for Time Machine backups?

3) If yes, do you want to erase the Time Capsule hard drive to create maximum storage space?

4) Do you have a Mac that is using a current or recent operating system?

We hope that you will not try to use the Time Capsule to store an "active" music or image library. Can you clarify on that please?

Good morning, Thank you for the replay Bob,

I am sorry for the delay in replaying,

1) now it is not connected to network.

2) I brought it two years ago, I set it up first, then I removed and kept it,

3) I would like to erase everything

4) yes I have a mac on the current os.

I would like to store what is important to me ie documents, photos, music, uni works etc.( not to back up whole computer).

At present I have no Ethernet connection near my computer, I have ordered a new WiFi booster and Ethernet extender, it will arrive next week?.
