Apple Watch unresponsive

My series one Apple Watch is unresponsive. I got a new one and was going to let my son use the old one. Nothing was wrong with it and I had it stored back in the box for a few months before I decided to let him use it. When I charge it, a white apple appears on the screen. When I take it off, the screen goes black. Nothing I press works. I've done a hard reset-nothing. I've let it charge on the apple charger-nothing. Help!
