Terrible battery life

I just got this new Macbook Air yesterday. Today I have been using it on and off and the battery life has been terrible. Started at 100% this morning and had to charge it twice. It even dropped from 39% to 7% while it was in sleep mode closed. Is this normal?

After a major update like or a fresh activation, there’s a lot of activity taking place in the background, such as indexing your files, syncing, downloading from iCloud or other cloud services, analyzing of photos, etc. This should settle down after a few days.

Normally, during this period, it’s preferable to leave the device connected to WiFi and charging all the time, especially overnight. This won’t damage the battery.
