Remove downloaded song from library but keep it in playlists in Apple Music

I’m an Apple Music Subscriber and I’m going to move to a place without internet connection for a couple of days so I want to download some music to hear offline but when I come back probably will remove the songs from the library because I’m more from playlists than library so all the time the library is empty.

Is there any way to do this? I don’t want to loose the songs on the playlists only because I downloaded the music for few days and then I just want the library empty as regular.

I know I can remove the downloads and keep the songs on the library but the point is I want just have the library empty and the playlist like ever.

thanks

Hi DFAPS,

Thanks for reaching out to the Apple Support Communities. If I understand correctly, you'd like to download songs from Apple Music so you can listen to them while you're without internet service for a few days. Once you return, you'd like to remove the songs from your iPhone and the Apple Music library.

If this is correct, you can download the songs you want to listen to, and remove them from the Library when you return. Since I have an Apple Music subscription also, I tested this out on my iPhone XS Max which is running iOS 13.4.1. When I removed the test song from the library and remove the download from my iPhone, the song remained in the playlist.

I followed the steps under, "How to delete items in the Apple Music app," from this article: Delete music, movies, and TV shows from your device.

I hope you get to enjoy your time away.

All the best.

Hello DFAPS,

Thanks for letting us know what's happening.

Have you tried selecting selecting "Remove Download" and then removing it from the library? If it's still not working as described, you'll want to follow these steps:

1 - Go to Settings > Music > Library > be sure that you have Add Playlist Songs turned off.

2 - Quit the Music app on your iPhone with these steps: How to force an app to close on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.

3 - Restart your iPhone & test again.

4 - If the issue persists, go to Settings > General > Software Update and see if there are any available. As of today the latest iOS version is iOS 13.4.1. If you find you need to install the update, first backup your iPhone with these steps: How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch

5 - Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch & try following the steps again.

Take care.
