Will an AT&T iPhone 11 work if I switch to Verizon?

I am planning on upgrading from an iPhone 6 to an iPhone 11. I have had AT&T for years but may be switching within the next year. If I buy an iPhone 11 from Apple that is configured for AT&T, will I be able to switch to Verizon and still use it? Are there any drawbacks such as not being optimized?
