H4N Not Recognized by Mac computer

When I first connected my Zoom H4N Pro via USB it was recognized by my computer and I could choose it as an input. I was prepping at night to use it in the morning. I then disconnected things for the night. The next morning I tried to set it up and it wasn't recognized. I thought maybe it had to do with needing to update my computer from whatever it was before to Catalina, so I did. Still isn't working. The H4N goes through the whole "connect" protocol but the computer just doesn't recognize it. My Mac is a newer one, with just the two ports USB-C on the side so I use a USB converter dongle. But why would it work once and then never again?

Thanks for your help.

Try disconnecting everything, power off the Zoom. Plug the cable and adapter into the Zoom first, then power on the Zoom, then plug the cable into the computer.
