Messages don't sync to my Mac Mojave

Messages display correctly on my iPhone and iPad as well as on iCloud but on my Mac they suddenly stop appearing.

I went to preferences and presses "sync".After that the sync button was greyed out but my messages din't sync. I logged out of messages and back in. My messages were still not all there so I pressed sync again and again the sync button has stayed greyed out

I am running 10.14.6 on my mac 13.4.1 on both my iPhone and iPad

Parallels, macOS 10.14

Hey tommmy,

Thanks for going through those steps and providing that info. It sounds like you have Messages in iCloud set up correctly on your Mac. Since it’s still not working, I would turn off Messages in iCloud on your Mac only. To do this, open Messages > Preferences > iMessage. Deselect Enable Messages in iCloud, then select Disable All.

Boot your Mac into safe mode after that and enable Messages in iCloud there. See if your Messages begin to sync as expected. If they do and Messages in iCloud seems to work without issues there, restart your Mac and see if any of the issues return. If the issues return after leaving safe mode, you may want to reinstall macOS using the steps from the following link. While this should retain your user settings and files, it’s always a good idea to make a backup before doing this:

Reinstall macOS

Take care.

Hey tommmy,

From your first post, it sounds like you use Messages in iCloud. Does it not show as in enabled on your iPhone and iPad in Settings > Your Name > iCloud? If Messages for iCloud is enabled there, you should enable it for your Mac as well as this could be the issue.

If it’s not, go through this link to make sure text message forwarding is set up correctly across your iPhone, iPad, and Mac:

How to forward SMS/MMS text messages from your iPhone to your iPad, iPod touch or Mac

Let me know if this has an impact on the issue.

Regards.

Thank you @jeremy_v . Very complicated.

I turn my mac off every night. My messages appear sometimes and then they no longer update. I had messages on April 24. They were gone and on April 27 they were mack. On April 28 they were gone again and came back on May 1. Today they are gone again. Messages received on myiPhone and iPad are all there. Messages is "on" on all three devices.

In preferences of Messages on my Mac, both "enable messages" and Enable messages in iCloud are checked. The addresses are all correct but "sync now" is greyed out

I went to iCloud today and Messages isn't there. I see no way to bring it on.

Also I pressed "Account Stetting" and then there was no way to return to the window where all apps are displayed. I could press iCloud and see a picture of apps that are there and chose one or the other but not the whole window. Logging off and then on brought the window back but the same happens when I press account settings

Messages is not in icloud. I tried to boot into safe mode. It took 10 minutes to do that. I went back and turned my vpn off.

Neither time was I able to launch Safari. Nothing would happen, I had to force quit it. I tried with Opera, I ws able to type icloud.com That also took forever but it could not reach the website. I tried with Firefox but also had to force quit it

Since messages is not in iCloud I didn't deselect Messages in icloud.

This morning when I launched messages. Some, but not all messages appeared. An SMS I sent this morning wasn't there nor was its reply. I sent and received from my phone

Please read my posts: iMessage is enabled on my iPhone. iMessage is enabled on my iPad. iMessage is enabled on my Mac.

The app is visible and available on all devices. On iCloud messages are not visible, The app Messages cannot be seen on iCloud, even though iMessages is enabled everywhere. iMessages seem to sync to my Mac according ro the alignment of the stars. Sometimes it syncs, then it stops for a few days then returns, although messages sent in between do not sync.

I reboot my computer every morning

Messages sync perfectly between my iPhone and my iPad

I have no problem sending and receiving SMS messages on my iPhone and iPad nor my Mac, when it works

Hey there tommmy,

Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities. I understand Messages in iCloud is not syncing with your Mac as expected. I’ll be happy to help with this.

If you haven’t already, restart your Mac and see if this has any impact on the issue:

How to turn your Mac on or off

If that doesn’t help, make sure you have a good internet connection on your Mac. Test another one and see if this has any impact on the issue.

Also, go to Messages > Preferences > iMessage from the Mac menu bar and make sure you have all the correct numbers and email under ‘You can be reached for messages at:’

Go through the following articles to make sure iCloud for Messages is set up correctly as well:
