Any quality anti glare film for macbook pro screen?

Hi,

I own a macbook pro and have the anti glare coach issue, reported by Apple, but I'm out of the 4 years for free replacement.

The issue is:

I saw it's possible to remove the native anti glare coach completely (polishing), but then I'll have a lot of reflections.

I thought about an anti glare film protector, but all the testing I saw have a lot of reflections, nobody satisfied: the same or more than without the native anti glare coach (it seems they sell it for protection purpose, not for anti-glare).

Anybody knows about a quality one for anti glare?

Or any treatment possible?

(I want it glossy, not mate).

Thanks in advance.

The price is high because that is a replacement upper unit. The Retina display, its case, and the screen cover are one sealed unit. Its components cannot be replaced separately.

Contact Apple again. Ask if a "depot repair option" is available in your area. I know that has been an option in the US in the past. Instead of fixing the problem in the store, they send away to their central refurbishment facility. The cost is ofter dramatically lower than what is quoted for in-store repair.

Contact an AASP - Use No Covers:

You are welcome! Ask the AASP for their service, and see what they offer.

As for covers, be certain you do not use keyboard covers, as humidity and heat easily accumulate, perhaps resulting in a damaged LogicBoard.

Take this as a learning experience, so that you don't lose AppleCare Plus service. :)

This is Accidental Coverage::

Applying this covering removes your AppleCare protection. Do not use it. Also, do not use a privacy filter, as it will overheat your Mac's screen, and will remove protection. Both are considered accidental damage, which is not covered by your protection.

So, just let the screen be. That just the way it is :}

Hi,

Thanks a lot for your answer.

My AppleCare protection is passed, it's a mid2014 macbook pro, so...

And now it's just horrible to see, but still perfect regarding performance (well, just changing the battery). That's why I'd like to fix this, let it like that just kills me every day...!

Ok for your advice about privacy filter, anyway, I don't like it.

But I'd be ok for an expansive and good anti glare screen film, just don't find one... (and I don't know if it exists).

Yeah... I lost it for 27 days... :(

(in 2019-01)

And my screen was like that 2 or 3 month before, just no time to go before and no idea about the 4 years replacement program. I've talked with Apple and suggested them inform with notifications... and they could be more tolerant when it's a few day question.

For keyboard covers, no risk, just hate it! I just like devices with nothing more, macs, iphones etc ;)

And normally, Apple devices have very good quality to don't need protections stuffs, unless this very bad screens...

Eh! 27 days? I wouldn't be so let down, in this case.

Not Using Keyboard Covers:

Check out this Post's Answer: Macbook pro won’t charge - Apple Support. Someone used a keyboard cover: They took it off and their Mac then worked.

My 2017 MacBook Pro's Screen:

On a personal note, my 2017 Macbook Pro's screen was replayed 11 times! It's connector was always loose. Having been so patient, they gave em a fee upgraded 2018 Mac. So, being nothing my part, they replaced it. Proof that they'll replace the screen at not additional cost, if a faulty device.

iPhone OtterBox:

For me, I've had my iPhone for more than half a decade. I have a cover over it, and I use an OtterBox for it. No cracks ever! So, consider an OtterBox.

Understood. :)

Getting Service:

Well, if you insist on applying this, then go to a retailer, seeing what they offer for service. Rather than get a new Mac, see if purchasing a new screen would be an option for you. I just can't emphasize it enough, just don't apply this stuff, to your new screen.

The Downside:

It is unremovable, that's the thing, and the other thing is that as time goes on, it bubbles up with the heat emulating by the computer itself.

See if an AASP is Open:

Locate an AASP (Apple Authorized Service Provider) in your local area. See if they offer screen replacement services.

Contact an AASP:

  1. Go Here: Find Locations - Apple Authorized Reseller
  2. Click: Service & Support
  3. Enter: your location information
  4. See: if there is an AASP nearby
  5. Contact: an AASP that shows up, and find out more about the services that they offer to fix the iPhone

From my experience even Apple's "replacement" screens also have the defective antiglare. My late 2013 MBPr had its screen replaced around 2016/17, but a year later the antiglare is coming off again, under normal use. It's so much hassle to have to go to the apple store to then have it gone for 2 weeks while it's being fixed. Only for it to happen again in a year.

To answer your original question I've seen photos of people who've removed all the anti-glare off their screen and it looks horrendous, wouldn't recommend it. Don't think there's any way of re-applying it either from what I've read.

Mine currently looks like this, and when I use it near people they ask what's wrong with the screen, and are shocked when I explain. It's a really bad for apple's reputation but if they don't want to fix the root of the problem and are happy for me to keep using it there's not much I can do!
