I'm not sure if I am missing what is being said re compatibility?

Could you clarify, thanks.

Learn about changes coming to macOS and how to update to GarageBand 10 for macOS.

As part of the upcoming transition to 64-bit technology in macOS, GarageBand 6.0.5 won’t be compatible with future versions of macOS, starting with the recently announced macOS Catalina 10.15. With GarageBand 10 for macOS, you can open and continue to work on the projects that you created in GarageBand 6.0.5.

The older iLife '11 version of GarageBand, GarageBand 6.0.5 is not compatible with macOS 10.15. The last version that supported it has been macOS10.14.6 Mojave.

But the newer GarageBand 10, version 10.3.4 is compatible with Catalina and you can open the older GarageBand projects in GarageBand 10. Leave the old GarageBand Sound Library and loops installed. GarageBand 10 comes with different loops and sounds and you may need the older sounds and loops, when you try to open older projects.
