best mac clean up software (to help laptop run faster)

Hello All,

I just wanted to ask which is the best Mac cleaning software? I downloaded a couple of 'free' ones, but it transpires you have to purchase the software to run the clean so my thinking is, if I am having to spend money on software, I may as well find out which is the best one to purchase, if I have to buy one. Maybe there is a free app out there or the Apple has its own software I'm not aware of?

My MacBook is 5 years old now and it has only now started slowing down. I've removed all unnecessary files and ran disk utility first aid.

Your help would be greatly appreciated.

The best way to clean up is manually. No Anti-Virus software or so-called “cleaning” apps are needed or recommended for Mac OS. They can conflict with Mac's own built-in security. At best they will slow your Mac by using unnecessary resources and at worst will bork your entire system. Your Mac has all the built-in protection you need.

You can run Etrecheck. It is only a diagnostic tool that's very useful to us in finding problems. Like why your Mac is running slow. Also it will give us further specs on your Mac. After it runs post the log file here. It will contain no personal information.
