When I left swipe a male message it keeps trying to archive the message and I wanted to delete the message. I have gone ahead and manually selected delete the next time mail from the same source keeps Defaulting to archive not trash

This depends on your mail service provider.
Check Settings > Passwords & Accounts > [your email service] > Account > Advanced and carefully check each item there.
BTW I asked about a MAIL message not a MALE message.
