I participated in an online chat session with my doctor last week and in the course of setting up for the appointment some malware (or something like it) was downloaded as an extension into Chrome. It is called "pdfconverterguru." Has anyone heard of this and know how I can get it off my extensions? I have tried blocking on pop-ups in Chrome settings and it doesn't work. Thank you.

That narrows down the problem. Short of uninstalling it there is probably a way to reset Google Chrome to defaults or remove any of its potentially conflicting add-ons, so I'd approach the problem from that perspective.
Does the same thing occur if you use Safari?
The idea is to determine if that pop-up is limited to Google Chrome or is affecting your Mac system-wide. If the problem is isolated to Chrome, examine Chrome's extensions or add-ons, or find a way to reset it to defaults.
Hi. Sorry it took my so long to reply. No. The same thing does not occur if I use Safari. I am in graduate school and use Canvas which is optimized on Chrome so I don't have a choice about which browser to use. I will do some exploring in Chrome to see what I can find. Perhaps an uninstall and reinstall would help? Thank you.
Thank you so much for your assistance. I reset the defaults yesterday and so far (fingers crossed) there have been no annoying popups this morning.
