I have read through the various threads and I don’t even have the option of adding the bookmark option back. It does not show that anywhere on my phone or on Safari.
Does anyone know how to make it an option first so that I can check the green plus and add it back?

When using Safari at the bottom of the screen you should be the back and forward buttons, a box with an arrow pointing up, a book, and tabs (2 boxes). You can add a bookmark in two ways. First, long press the book icon and you will see Add Bookmark. The second is select the box with arrow pointing up, scroll down and select Add Bookmark.
