Please help! I copied and pasted about a years worth of photos from iPhoto onto my desktop. I deleted them then off iPhoto as well as iCloud as I thought I had sufficiently backed them up. I have now discovered that my photos are only JPEG images and no MOVIE files... so I have lost all of my little videos as well as my 'Live Photos.'
Is there anyway that I can restore these? The deleted copies are sitting in the bin on my MacBook.

When you did the copy and paste all you copied were the jpeg previews that Photos creates for each video when it imports them to the library.
To get the video/movie out of the library one must use the File ➙ Export ➙ Export XXX Unmodified Originals menu option.
Copy and paste also only gets the preview version of photos and not the full sized original or edited version.
Do you have a backup strategy enabled for your MB, like Time Machine? If you do you can restore the library from the backup made just prior to the deletion of the items from the library.
If you don't you should do so ASAP so you don't have another incident like this one.

In Preview use the Inspector/General pane to get the image size.
What are the pixel dimensions of one of the 400KB and 200KB images?
Those items won't help you for the videos. You might be able to use those that were just photos. Move them out of the Trash bin to a folder on the Desktop. Open some with Preview and check to see what size they are. They could be large enough to be of some help to youl
Thank you very much for your reply. Yes that is exactly what has happened. Unfortunately I have no back up as far as I know. Is there anyway I can revert this situation? As the thumbnails are sitting in the bin....
Sorry ... all of the thumbnails which I copied and pasted from my iPhoto’s. they are not in the recently deleted folder as it has been more than 30 days unfortunately. They are in the Bin on my MacBook ...
I can copy them to a folder on the desktop but I can’t seem to see what size it is when it is open using preview . When I click on the image on the desktop it shows me it is the same size it is as it was in the bin. For example some are 200kb some are 400kb ...
do you think these are useable to print as small photos?
Which thumbnails in which bin? Are you referring to the Recently Deleted folder in Photos?
