Rosetta Stone microphone not working on MacBook Air

My daughter is working on her French homework and needs the microphone to work . It has been working for weeks then today she gets a message that says you need to enable your microphone. .


We have gone to system preferences to re-set the sounds and microphone but no luck .


The work involves someone speaking to her in French and my daughter has to repeat the sentence in the microphone .


Would you have any suggestions on how we can solve this problem ?

Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities. I understand you’re having issues using Rosetta Stone with your microphone. I’ll be happy to help with this.


To verify, is she attempting to use the built-in mic or an external mic? In either case, test the mic with another app, like Voice Memos or QuickTime and see if you can record audio with your mic there.

Record a voice memo on your Mac


If it works there, this probably isn’t a hardware issue and you’ll want to make sure access to the mic is allowed for Rosetta Stone using the steps here:

If that doesn’t work, check for any updates to your Mac and software:

Update apps or use automatic downloads


Then restart and try again:
