Trying to find a mike for my MacPro

Like many other people, lately I have been trying to do Zoom, Google Hangout, and so on. I got a HyperX Cloud II headset with a mike, which has a USB connector. The headset can be selected by System Preferences and the input and output volumes set, but I can only hear and not speak. When I go to Zoom Test Meeting, I click on the Join Audio button but it remains unjoined. Then when I go to System Preferences again, the mike has been automatically muted! Any ideas? I am open to getting a different mike if needed.

In real life, I have done a few Zoom meetings over the MacPro and I can see and hear, but I cannot be heard or seen (the latter is not a surprise, as I don't have a camera connected to the MacPro).

Um...you have to authorize it to use it in an App.

But authorized or not, you can test its function in;

System preferences > Sound ...

select your input, possibly after a visit to audio Midid setup...

... You should see the VU meter move in response to Mic input.

If that works, your next stop is:

System Preferences > Security&Privacy | Privacy ...

select microphone for the list on the left, and authorize the Apps you want to have access on the right.

Thanks BDAqua! The IT person who recommended the HyperX Cloud II obviously had a good experience with this model, but he does not use a Mac.

I ordered the EncoreData headset--can't go wrong for $17.

My IT friend (a different one) helped me to troubleshoot the HyperX and we visited the Audio Midi SetupApp; the HyperX was there, but the result was still no sound.
