notifications not on lock screen

Usually, when my phone sleeps and goes to lock screen, I see notifications on the lock screen so that I know there's a reason to sign in to see waddup. I have settings for notifications all set with banners and lock screen and on permanent, etc. I just picked up my phone now....no notification showing, but when I signed in there was an email. Not sure what's different or why. Phone did just update, but think this was happening before that. Help please.

Hey there, and welcome to Apple Support Communities, hac66!

From my understanding, you’re not receiving Mail notifications on your iPhone when it’s locked. I’d be happy to take a look!

You mentioned that your notifications are set for banners and lock screen, but I’d recommend going to Settings > Notifications Mail, and selecting the particular account that is affected. After selecting the appropriate account, there’s an individual set of settings for allowing notifications on that account specifically. You can also check to see if Thread Notifications is enabled, so that any replies to a particular email thread will alert you as well.

I’d also suggest going to Settings > Passwords & Accounts > Fetch New Data > Select the account that is affected. From there, you’d want to determine whether Fetch, Push, or Manual is set. This will determine how your email is refreshed, and how you receive notifications.

Last but not least, I'd recommend ensuring that Do Not Disturb is turned off as well. If you see a crescent moon icon on the upper right of your iPhone, this could prevent you from receiving notifications, depending on your Settings. To check that, go to Settings > Do Not Disturb > Silence, there should be an option there for Always or While iPhone is Locked. If Do Not Disturb is off, and you don't have Scheduled enabled, this feature is also available with Bedtime alarms, if you seem to experience this when sleeping.

Let me know the results, and have a great day!

Thanks for all you information, Moon J. I believe I have all those bases covered. I go to settings, notifications and then select gmail and set it to allow notifications. That's also where "alerts" include lock screen, notification center and banners. Show previews is also selected. I think I'm noticing that the gmail notifications appear on the lock screen when I wake up my phone before entering pass word, but not the texts. The texts settings are set the same as gmail ones. Tho messages has an option to repeat alerts. There is no option in either regarding Threads. Do not disturb is not on. Fetch is.

I know this is now different than it was cuz you get into automatic pilot using your phone and you notice when something starts requiring more steps. I wouldn't unlock my phone if I knew there were no new notifications. Now it is requiring I unlock it to see if I have a text or not. Kinda annoying. I may have said the phone was recently updated and problem might have started happening after that.....problem is recent and update is recent too. But I can't be sure prob occurred before or after.

Thanks again.
