Dell U3417W monitor + macbook pro 2020

I am connecting a new macbook pro to the Dell U3417W monitor using USB-C->HDMI adaptor. I cant get the screen to fill the edges of this monitor. Underscan is disabled. How do I get this fixed?

Try using Extended Desktop Mode instead of Mirror Display Mode. Mirror display also mirrors the display resolution. Extended desktop mode allows you to select the native resolution of the external display.

HDMI—trouble-prone, and can be difficult to obtain 60Hz refresh in some cases. Resolutions 4K or above are difficult to obtain through HDMI.

If you have a choice, these display interfaces, all variants of each other and are preferable:

Mini DisplayPort, DisplayPort, Thunderbolt-3, and USB-C.
