The AirPods low battery sound is too loud

My husband has tinnitus and sensitive hearing. We both love our AirPods, but the low battery sound is actually painful for him to hear. It's too loud for me as well. Is there a way to turn it down or even turn it off?

Unfortunately, Apple's 'tutorial' for Airpods and Airpods Pro tell you what to expect, but not how to mute the noise made when the batteries are running low.
