Catalina support for MiniDV camcorders

Did Apple removed support for MiniDV camcorders on the Catalina OS? I'm trying to transfer a bunch of family miniDV tapes to a 2019 Macbook Pro 15" with HDMI connection? Before the Catalina upgrade, both Quicktime and FCP could see the camcorder to extract the videos. Now with Catalina no more!

First thing to do is to confirm security settings to allow the video and sound from your camera to be used:

Apple Menu > System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Privacy: in the left column, select Camera then click the lock to allow changes, then click on the option box for camera.

Do the same for Microphone

I note you stated using an HDMI connection, your camera and Mac use a Firewire connection not HDMI.

You will need to use a USB-C and a Thunderbolt adapter to connect the camera to the MacBook Pro, this video explains it: Connecting Firewire to USB-C Macs
