I can't find documents folder in finder or anywhere else

Since I updated my system I can't find the documents folder in my finder window.

I've searched the forum and found this:

"Open a Finder window, then press Command ⌘ + shift + G to open the "Go to folder" prompt. Type in a tilde ~ symbol, which represents your user directory, then click Go. Now, drag the Documents folder back into the sidebar. Open a Finder window, then press Command ⌘ + shift + G to open the "Go to folder" prompt."

But when I do this, there is NO DOCUMENTS FOLDER to drag it back into the finder.

I know the folder exists, as when I search for items in it, they come up.

I've also tried what someone else suggested which was entering a command into the Terminal screen, which didn't do anything.

Can anyone help please?

Thank you.

This is what you paste into "Go to Folder…"

~/Documents
